Broaster Express and gas and postage stamps

Whenever I’m recovering from the flu, I crave fried chicken. So yesterday, after being in bed for a full week, I drove to the Broaster Express in Richmond, source of the best-tasting fried chicken I can find.

I first tasted Broaster fried chicken at a cousin’s house and she told me where she got it. This Broaster Express is right at the Chevron gas station of the Hilltop Mall (2900 Hilltop Mall Road, Richmond, CA 94806; telephone 510-222-6118).

While waiting for my order of crisply fried wings, thighs, and drumsticks, I decided this might be the best Chevron station I’ve seen in a long while. Besides having the Broaster Express taking up the right side of the service station, they had a contract unit of the United States Postal Service on the left side. That means you could gas up your car, get it washed (there’s a car wash, too!), mail a package, and eat some tasty fried chicken — in one stop!

I’d never seen these mini-Post Office outlets inside a private commercial establishment. This one I saw was closed, but it was late Saturday afternoon, and no post office is open at that time. Having more places to buy stamps (at face value) and mail packages is progress and I’m all for it!
