FOOL-PROOF™

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. Why? Because it’s a GUARANTEED four-day weekend! Woohoo!

Last week I saw a TV commercial for a product that’s been overdue for several years now. The turkey you can take straight from the freezer to the oven to the table.

Jennie-O Turkey

Jennie-O Turkey Store Oven Ready
Toss out everything you know about making the perfect turkey. Now it’s easier than ever. Our pre-seasoned, fresh-frozen turkey doesn’t need thawing, cleaning or prepping. It goes straight from the freezer to the oven to tender and tasty every time. It’s just one more thing to be thankful for.

Seriously, why hasn’t this product been on the market since the 1980’s?

Last thanksgiving (2006) we were vacationing in Florida and happened to see a Jennie-O product at a Wal Mart Super Store. It was in a box that contained a boneless turkey breast, stuffing and gravy. We purchased it and were pleasantly suprised at how good this product was and would certainly buy it again. A couple of days ago my wife saw what she thought was the turkey breast packaged without the stuffing and purchased it. After cooking it we discovered it was some kind of processed turkey in some sort of gelatinous material that looked like tapioca. We each took one bite and were so disappointed we threw it away. We would have returned it to the store where we purchased it but it was 20 mile away. In our opinion this is the worst product we have ever purchased ment for human consumption. We have never taken the time to complain about a product before but this was so bad we felt compelled to let you know how dissatisfied we were.

  2. Sorry you had that bad experience. As it was, last Thanksgiving we bought our turkey cooked so we didn’t have to deal with cooking at all, even with a Jennie-O.

Charles, was the turkey breast product you bought a Jennie-O? That wasn’t clear from your comment. It’s very easy to be deceived by packaging.

For instance, last Christmas my brother-in-law gave me what I thought was the original Star Wars trilogy DVDs. Imagine my disappointment — and his — when I opened the box and inside was only The Return of the Jedi. (The worst movie of that trilogy to boot!)

Turns out the package was for The Return of the Jedi DVD and a graphic novel. No Star Wars, no Empire Strikes Back. Boo! Hoo.
